Jake Stevens

Jake Stevens is Senior Vice President of a minority-owned real estate firm in West Hollywood. Mayor Karen Bass appointed him President of the City of Los Angeles Board of Building & Safety Commissioners, the first LGBTQ+ person in City History to fill that role. He previously served four years as President of the City of Los Angeles East Area Planning Commission and is President of the California State New Motor Vehicle Board, the first LGBTQ+ Boardmember at NMVB in State history.

Jake is currently the 73rd President of the Board of Governors at Occidental College, where he was a Centennial Scholar and the 2022 Erica J. Murray Young Alumnus of the Year. He was a three-term Planned Parenthood of Pasadena and San Gabriel Valley Boardmember and former PPFA National Employee.

Mr. Stevens formerly served on the Los Angeles City Revenue Generation Commission and was elected to the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council at age 16. Jake was named the 2022 Democrat of the Year for the 52nd Assembly District by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party.  

Jake is an Eagle Scout, a two-term member of the California Democratic Party State Central Committee and was recognized as the 2019 LGBTQ+ Heritage Month - Person of the Year for Los Angeles City Council District 14.

Jake was Deputy to West Hollywood Mayor (and now Los Angeles County Assessor) Jeffrey Prang and is Treasurer of the Los Angeles County Library Foundation Board, serving the second largest Library system in America. The City of West Hollywood declared January 12, 2022 as ‘Jake Stevens Day’ in recognition of his support of LGBTQ+ tourism.

Mr. Stevens credits his former boss - United States Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra - as a lifetime mentor. Jake was proud to serve then U.S. Congressman Becerra on Capitol Hill, where he helped re-charter the LGBT Congressional Staff Association during the 105th Congress.

Jake is a first generation college graduate and the son of a Communication Workers of America Union Steward. He lives in the Highland Park neighborhood of Northeast Los Angeles with his rescue pitbull, Graham.
