City of Los Angeles

Jake was appointed as President of the Los Angeles Board of Building & Safety Commissioners by Mayor Karen Bass in 2023, the first LGBTQ+ person in City history to hold the seat. He previously served four years as President of the City of Los Angeles East Area Planning Commission. Jake is a former member of the City of Los Angeles Commission on Revenue Generation and the Eagle Rock Neighborhood Council.

State of California

California Governor Gavin Newsom twice appointed Jake to the California State New Motor Vehicle Board, where he serves as a quasi-judicial officer of the State. As Board Vice President, Jake works to enhance relations between Car dealerships and manufacturers by resolving motor vehicle industry disputes in in an efficient, fair and cost-effective manner.

Jake is the NMVB’s first openly LGBTQ Boardmember in California state history and was the inaugural Chair of the Board’s Committee on Equity, Justice and Inclusion.

City of West Hollywood

 Jake’s first job was Deputy to West Hollywood Mayor (and now Los Angeles County Assessor) Jeffrey Prang, where they wrote and passed first-in-the-nation laws to support Transgender residents and a ban on the sale of puppy-mill dogs. Jake focused on supporting West Hollywood youth and organized pro-literacy programming across the City.

The City of West Hollywood declared January 12, 2022 as ‘Jake Stevens Day’ in recognition of his support of LGBTQ tourism.
